The project initiated by the Chair for Databases and Information Systems at the University of Augsburg in cooperation with Alpstein Tourismus GmbH & Co. KG is funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology. The goal of the project is to develop a platform that provides tourists with personalized activities under consideration of complex context and user model constraints. From a provider view, the platform enables location-based and targeted advertising and reporting and thus sets the foundation for future-oriented ways of marketing for tourism. As main components, the Trip Planner Engine (TPE) and the Tourism Analytics Framework (TAF) are developed around a Preference Matching Core (PMC) that is powered by Preference SQL. The Trip Planner Engine gives recommendations for activities and generates personalized (multi-day) plans at a chosen destination. The Tourism Analytics Framework provides means for customer analysis and dynamic target-group definition.
